Meerkat are a dynamic duo with a natural rapport and visual presence that captures the audience with an eclectic set which
is both moving and vibrant. They combine mostly original work that has a celtic, world dance feel with a hint of jazz and
dash of the exotic, with some unusual jigs and reels. Fiery fiddle and mandolin weave and blend with enchanting voice and
rhythmic guitar.
Meerkat played the annual Women In Tune Festivals near Lampeter which took place in 2004 and 2005 event, check out the

Wild West Wales Reviews the new MEERKAT CD Album LOOKING
ARTIST: MEERKAT
ALBUM: LOOKING
YEAR: 2005
This album is 47 minutes of exquisite, highly personal and bittersweet reflections on love, life and relationships. At
first it seems to be lightly atmosphereric and airy, however on repeated listening the lyrics are revealed to contain real
depth of feeling. There is a real sense of yearning for the things that we all desire in life. All the songs here are written
by Miranda Betts and she displays an excellent ability to capture emotional moods. The other half of this accomplished duo
is Heather Summers whose fine work on Violin, Mandolin and Drum creates haunting and melodically moody settings for Miranda's
lyrics.
There is a very nice bonus instrumental track of live reels which should please the many fans of their live shows. I
particularly like track 5, Home, which is finely crafted and appeals to that need for safety and security which is such a
part of the human condition. Perhaps the strongest song on the album is track 8, The Promise, which deals with the search
for happiness and a degree of personal turmoil. That said, all the tracks have something interesting to tell us about Miranda
(and ourselves). She obviously has had her troubles and many of the songs on this album appear very much to be an attempt
to exorcise a number of demons. I hope she has been successful in this and I look forward to her next set of songs that I
am sure will reveal her to be a major figure on the West Wales singer/song writing scene. This is, all in all, a fine first
album which I am happy to recommend to visitors to the Wild West Wales website.
You can listen to low resolution MP3s here and then hotfoot it out and buy a copy from Meerkat at mail@meerkatmusic.org.
