Live at the Talbot Hotel, Tregaron
Dead Elephant Club launched by Cambria Arts
Dave Sutherland Band - Album Launch! - 27 Jun 2008, 9.00pm @ The Talbot

|
| Dave Sutherland |
This show will launch Dave's fourth studio album,'On The Waiting List' and he will be accompanied by the stellar band who
play on the album, including members of Ray Davies' touring band.
Dave is undoubtedly one of South London's best kept secrets and one of the most, at least up to now, underrated singer
songwriters in the UK.
The new CD, released on Red Kite Records, builds on the strong Americana-meets-South London feel of his last two albums,
'Comfortable Junction' from 1999 and the highly acclaimed 'American Refrigerator' from 2002. 'On The Waiting List' finds a
fully matured artist in complete control of his melodic and lyrical powers. By turns, dark, humorous, witty and poignant,
the album reveals Dave's observations on issues such as the search for love, love gone wrong, domestic abuse, the vagaries
of drink and drugs, and life after prison.
The album features the talents of long-standing friends from Dave's live and studio work, Paul Furnace and Matt Percival,
who provide guitar and bass respectively, while Toby Baron and Sweden's Gunnar Frick, from Ray Davies' touring band handle
drums and percussion, and keyboards, pedal steel and accordion. Gunnar in particular brings some brilliant flourishes of colour
to the album.
The album is another example of Red Kite's ability to find the true sound and individual voice of the artists that they
represent and record at their superb facility in the heart of rural Wales. The sound is clear, warm, organic and 'real', which
puts the listener in the room with the musicians as they put the songs down. Slated for release in Spring 2008, 'On The Waiting
List' will appeal to all lovers of style of classic Americana from artists such as John Prine, Steve Earle and John Hiatt.
Come along and help Dave launch his great new album in style at the Talbot - his home gig!

Grupo Lokito - Talbot Tregaron on Friday 18th April (9pm)

|
| Grupo Lokito |
Grupo Lokito, who play the Talbot Tregaron on Friday 18th April (9pm), is described as an exuberant explosion of sound that
fuses Congolese and Latin rhythms. The seven musicians who make up the band bring with them a wealth of experience and an
ability to span generations and continents with musical confidence and style.
Cambria Arts' Hilary Booth says: "We wanted two great dance bands to bookend the Mid Wales Open Art Fair. No.1 Station
had the crowd on their feet on the opening day of the show with their Jamaican ska and bluebeat, and now we're looking forward
to another great night of rhythm from Africa and the Caribbean to celebrate what has been a very successful art show."
A dynamic on-stage partnership between pianist Sara McGuiness and Congolese singer José Hendrix Ndelo forms the driving
force behind the band. Sara’s talent on the piano has seen her playing alongside living legends from the Buena Vista
Social Club and she has recently been recording in Mali with flautist Dramane Coulibaly and his band. She has performed at
London's Queen Elizabeth Hall and Ronnie Scott's, besides touring as far afield as China, Indonesia, Uzbekistan, Brunei and
Algeria.
José first came to the UK two years ago as the lead singer with young Congolese band Planet Elegance. He is a versatile
performer who has sung with the National Classical Choir of Kinshasa as well as the likes of Papa Wemba, Werra Son and Koffi
Olomide. José will be backed on this occasion by three top Congolese vocalists: Eugene Makuta on vocals, Limousine on lead
guitar and Mara on drums. Colombian timbalero Roberto Pla, known in London as the "Godfather of Latin music", and
bassist Elpidio Caicedo complete the Grupo Lokito line-up.

LIVE! AT THE TALBOT - roots off the beaten track
The kaleidoscopic range of styles and genres that fall into the category of 'roots' music these days includes folk, blues,
country, jazz, singer-songwriter, and 'world' music - all created and performed by gifted and committed musicians on a flourishing
circuit of specialist venues dedicated to promoting quality roots acts. The Talbot in Tregaron, a tiny market town right off
the beaten track deep in the hills of mid-Wales, has been dubbed 'The Best Roots Venue in Wales'. For a number of years, Celf
Cambria Arts, an entirely unpaid voluntary local arts association, have presented twice-monthly gigs at this historic hostelry,
and through their enthusiasm and sheer hard work, the Talbot is now a regular port of call for touring roots musicians from
all over the world - all of them love its intimate atmosphere and the warmth of the appreciative Talbot audience.
Red Kite Records, in conjunction with Celf Cambria Arts, are proud to bring you Live! at the Talbot, a selection of highlights
from the 2003/4 season. Recorded at the venue by Toby Levan, and produced by his father, Grammy Award-winning Red Kite supremo
Martin Levan, these 13 exclusive live performances will take you on an absorbing and moving musical journey, from the atmospheric
rural opener by acclaimed Wisconsin songwriter Jeffrey Foucault to the full-on swagger of award-winning British blues wizard
Todd Sharpville. We stop off in Texas for a masterful performance from the majestic Eric Taylor, and drop in at a Louisiana
zydeco dance party with Keith Frank & Soileau Zydeco. From Matabeleland, Zimbabwe, comes the richly upliftfing sound of
the 10-man a cappellea band Imbizo, while Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Kris Delmhorst brings a delicate stillness to her
contribution. Boston's folk virtuoso Peter Mulvey and rising folk-blues troubadour Kreg Viesselman provide further contrasting
examples of acoustic Americana; and Cathryn Craig & Brian Willoughby and Faire Winds represent truly inter-national folk
collaborations. Emerging blues diva Lisa Mills from Mobile, Alabama, delivers a heart-stopping performance, while legendary
folk-rock godfather Meic Stevens represents the home country, Wales. Cherished annual Tregaron visitors, Grammy Award winner
Albert Lee & Hogan's Heroes, complete a sparkling line-up of artists.
A lavish 20-page full-colour booklet, with exclusive gig-night photographs, complements this richly diverse live album
- truly, roots off the beaten track ... Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Live! at the Talbot.
